This was the first demonstration of ensemble entanglement created and controlled in the solid state. The scheme introduced in this paper for proving the existence of entanglement has been adopted as the accepted standard by a number of high-profile groups worldwide. This work was profiled in Scientific American (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=solid-state-entanglement) and the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/25/science/25spin.html?_r=0), among many others, and has been well cited since 2011.
