Additional information

The proposed method of bundling inland wind farms with thermal power plants for power transmission over a thousand kilometres shows a significant improvement in economic operation. State Grid Corporation of China (Yalou Li, Chief Engineer, Power System Department, liyalou@epri.sgcc.com.cn) estimates an 80% better use of transmission lines, which will save the cost of building new HVDC transmission lines and a converter at the receiving end in Shanghai. A patent has been applied for by Alstom Grid China Technology Centre (No. CN201110335121.8). This research has led to a collaborative NSF_China & EPSRC_UK proposal (£100k to Cardiff), submitted in July 2013.
