This study presents novel algorithms for knowledge extraction from data sets containing numerical and categorical data. It was funded by EC and EPSRC grants and took part of earlier research activities, which led to Dr. Bigot being awarded the SME Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award and which were presented at various seminars including at the Illinois Genetic Algorithms Laboratory (USA). The algorithms are currently used in an EngD study sponsored by Tata Steel and one of the techniques used by the algorithms has been adopted in another algorithm developed by researchers from King Saud University (Saud Arabia).
