Paper demonstrates that isotopic composition of atmospheric Zn reveals its source. Assigning Zn provenance is a fundamental challenge to urban planners. Work required development of an analytical method to measure precise isotope ratios in aerosols. Weiss recieved invitations for invited and keynote talks at main mass spectrometry conferences (Plasma Spectrometry, 2008, USA; Geoanalysis, 2012, Brazil) and feature articles in respected journals (Environmental Science and Technology, 2008; Elements, 2009). Work led to appointment as Visiting Professor at Xiamen University (China). Follow on grant (£3m, FP7-CLIM-AMAZON-project, www.clim-amazon.eu; 2012-2015) is testing this technique to reveal trace element fluxes in Amazon Basin.
