Additional information

First use of small-sample hydrogenation of meteorites. Data finally explained observations of unusual organic structures in meteorites that have puzzled scientists since 1960s. Revelations provided elegant means of discriminating between organic matter in meteorites and life. Paper used by NASA Mars 2020 Science Definition Team (biosignature subpanel) to plan for the next NASA Mars mission. Impressive preliminary data led to a £192,025 urgency grant award by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (ST/K000551/1). Supported appointment as Chair of UK Space Agency Space Exploration Advisory Committee in 2013. http://www.bis.gov.uk/ukspaceagency/news-and-events/2013/Mar/new-chairs-for-two-uk-space-agency-advisory-committees. Paper prompted convenorship of biosignatures session at AGU 2013, San Francisco.
