Additional information

Satellite based systems for aircraft navigation must achieve a specified level of safety or integrity. Prior to this work, performance assessment did not consider all failure modes, all space-time geometry points along a flight track, and computational load. Paper was first of a series by Ochieng’s group to, for the first time, fully account for these requirements. It develops a novel application of a mathematical integration technique to significantly reduce computational load, enabling near-real time integrity performance calculations. These discoveries are captured in a unique tool, GAVaT, used by the UK CAA (joji.waites@srg.caa.co.uk) to approve the UK’s non-precision approach operations.
