Additional information

Turbulent mass transfer is of importance in corrosion processes, the absorption of nutrients and dissolved oxygen by biofilms and micro-organisms in sediments. In this paper, we develop a novel framework capable of generating exact solutions for turbulent mass transfer. Crucially, the framework is applicable to non-linear boundary conditions, creating opportunities for several relevant problems in environmental engineering. This work has led to follow-up funding in terms of HPC time on HECToR to improve the turbulence description and forms the basis for later work that extends the method to bulk reactions (doi:10.1016/j.ijheatmasstransfer.2012.06.048) and rough wall geometries (doi:10.1007/s00231-013-1165-4).
