Additional information

This paper compares the information you can get from two surface and subsurface stress measurement techniques (magneto-acoustic emission and magnetic barkhausen emission), and demonstrates how the two techniques can be used in a complementary way in order to provide a more complete picture of the surface and subsurface stresses than is available from either technique on its own. The paper then outlines a novel hybrid technique for the characterisation of surface and subsurface stresses.
