Additional information

This paper discovered how magneto-static interactions between domain walls in adjacent nanoscale magnetic wires create potential barriers and wells to impede wall motion. Measurements were performed using magnetic transmission X-ray microscopy in Berkeley, USA, to view domain walls under applied magnetic fields, with additional analysis provided by micromagnetic modelling. This paper defined the limits of the miniaturisation of nanowire memory technologies and motivated further work on magneto-static interactions in academia (e.g. Germany DOI:10.1088/0953-8984/24/2/024209; Poland DOI:10.1016/j.jmmm.2011.12.014; MIT DOI:10.1063/1.3396076; Cambridge DOI:10.1103/PhysRevLett.108.187202, 10.1103/PhysRevB.87.1.
