SPH is becoming increasingly popular for highly distorted flows but there are convergence/accuracy and stability issues. This work solves this problem for internal flows and has been quite widely applied. Xu was a PhD student who now works for Airbus. The work has led to an EPSRC grant with a view to producing a formally accurate scheme for fluid-structure interaction problems with a free surface.
