Crystal plasticity analysis of micro-deformation, lattice rotation and geometrically necessary dislocation density
The first detailed microstructural evaluation (for both cubic and hexagonal systems) of a crystal model is presented which forms the basis for Rolls-Royce’s management of cold-dwell facet fatigue in titanium discs [1,2] and underpins work on texture, non-proportionality and forming limits in auto steels with BMW (EPSRC EP/I021043). Presented at several invited lectures, and a keynote lecture at TMS (2011). The facet work is estimated to save ~£2.5M/year to Rolls-Royce through reduced conservatism.
