Additional information

This paper resulted from a collaboration between Imperial College and Rolls-Royce plc.  Potter was a Rolls-Royce sponsored CASE students, and McMillan was at the time of the research, an employee of Rolls-Royce and responsible for coordinating research and technology acquisition, particularly regarding strength of composite materials. Pinho, Robinson and Iannucci were established research active staff at  Imperial College.   This paper developed a method of modelling that will benefit future materials modelling research, probably through collaboration with other universities working with Rolls-Royce on the modelling of 3D fibre architecture and reinforcement in composite materials
