Additional information

<22> This paper presents the research outcomes from an industrial collaboration with ORTEC (Netherlands) supported by an EPSRC project (GR/S31150/01) and by ORTEC. The methods presented here have been embedded in ORTEC’s commercial workforce scheduling software products. ORTEC reports that this software is being used by 160 healthcare organizations with, in total, approximately 350,000 employees. These customers report lasting reductions in personnel costs of up to 7.5%, without loss of productivity. The contact at ORTEC is Dr Bart Veltman, Partner/Management Consultant (Bart.Veltman@ortec.com). The paper has attracted major research attention in the area, as evidenced by its high citation count.
