Additional information

This is a reserve item, given the request for double weighting of item 2. This edition is a complete reconstruction of Purcell’s 1694 ode Come ye Sons of Art, which developed from research published by the author in the article 'Robert Pindar, Thomas Busby and the Mysterious Scoring of Henry Purcell's "Come ye Sons of Art"', in Music & Letters in 2007. The edition seeks to return the music to a form much closer to what Purcell originally composed by identifying and removing a substantial number of eighteenth-century ‘improvements’, which were incorporated by Robert Pindar in the manuscript copy he made of the piece in 1765, today the work’s only complete surviving source. The reconstruction has been performed widely (both prior to and after its publication), including by two major professional groups.
