Additional information

This research led to a new experimental method for assessing turbine cooling system performance which promises to significantly lower test costs and reduce the need for hot engine testing of jet-engines and industrial gas turbines. The technique is new in that it allows the overall performance of real engine components to be assessed. A joint Rolls-Royce/TSB grant for £895k has been awarded to develop a facility to demonstrate the technique on whole-engine nozzle-guide-vane rings.
