Additional information

This paper presents pioneering work in the utilisation of spectrophotometric methods for estimating non-invasively venous blood saturation, which currently is non existent. The knowledge of venous saturation and arterial blood oxygen saturation will enable clinical experts to have a full understanding of the oxygen delivery and oxygen uptake by the body. The simultaneous calculation of these two parameters with the aid of new signal processing algorithms developed for this work will push the boundaries of clinical monitoring to new levels. This work triggers the beginning of a fertile collaboration between City and Yale University in the USA.
