Additional information

A new pilot scale simulator for aero-engine oil degradation is presented. Small scale test rigs are hampered by their ability to mimic engine conditions in terms of flow, temperature and bulk chemistry. This work, carried out in conjunction with Rolls-Royce, is significant as it offers the potential to representatively degrade oils at a fraction of the cost of running an engine (contact details available). This work led to a PhD and work within the EU funded programme, ELUBSYS on the development of inline condition monitoring of lubricant and the development of chemical kinetic models of oil degradation (contact details available).
