<22>Human vision studies focus on functional aspects of the visual cortex and therefore the contribution made by low level brain structures is ignored. In this paper we present the first computational model of mid brain vision processing leading to the amygdala. This was applied to a practical problem of security surveillance and tested in a prototype with Waterfall Solutions Ltd as part of an EPSRC KTA project (EP/H500189/1). The novelty of this paper is to show how a neuroscience-inspired model can be applied systematically in real-time visual analysis trained to exhibit ‘fear’ when a particular visual target was detected.
