Additional information

This paper describes a new periodic array architecture which gives superior electromagnetic performance in terms of bandwidth, polarisation purity and angular sensitivity compared to traditional meander line structures. The concept was demonstrated by manufacturing and testing a device operating at 325 GHz, a molecular emission line of H2O, commonly observed in space borne radiometers. Installing this structure in the next generation instruments will for the first time enable polarisation analysis to be performed. Patents relating to the design of the periodic elements have been granted in Europe (2010) EP 1 861 896 B1 and USA (2011) 39562.US.01
