Additional information

<05> This paper includes the results of fundamental research as part of a major project on the performance and resilience of mission critical communications systems. The paper is a generalised form of a previous paper published at the 17th International Conference on Analytical and Stochastic Modelling Techniques and Application (Springer LNCS,2010) which introduced the concept of Propagated Failures to the Queuing theory literature for the first time. This allows the modelling of subsequent failures in communication networks resulting from a a major failure or a natural disaster in a way that was not investigated before.
