This paper addresses a major issue surrounding the use of cell transplantation to treat sufferers of Parkinson’s disease; namely, the inconsistency in clinical outcomes of transplant recipients. The timing coincides with a major international project funded (elsewhere) by the European Health Commission to look at the efficacy of primary cell transplantation for treating Parkinson’s disease. The output was a deliverable of BBSRC funding (BBSRC 260406; BB/E009433/1), and has helped hone the neural transplantation paradigm for more robust and consistent result during clinical use. MA Gates is the lead author on this paper.
