<20>The concept of 'studio-based' teaching is relatively new in HCI and CS education, although it is well-established in other design disciplines. This paper reports a detailed evaluation of the studio-based 'prototype walkthrough' in HCI education, and provides evidence of its efficacy. It establishes empirically that key HCI concepts are exercised during moderated studio-style discussions, and that students relate concepts to concrete examples and evidence; i.e., that the method results in appropriate learning. ToCHI is rated 'A*' in ERA, with a 2011 impact factor of 3.184.
