Additional information

Biocatalysts in synthetic chemistry are advantageous as they are stereoselective and allow green conversions. Here we show how developments from the BiCE impact case study can be applied to make chiral amino-diols. To deliver this work we previously established new chemistries and assays (Sehl et al, 2012, DOI 10.1016/j.jbiotec.2011.12.023), identified novel biocatalysts and used protein evolution strategies (Strafford et al, 2012, DOI 10.1016/j.jbiotec.2011.11.017) to achieve rapid and predictive process scale-up. The new synthesis removed 8 steps from a previous chemical process performed by ALMAC reducing reagent and energy usage (Dr Moody, tom.moody@almacgroup.com).
