This paper reviews the characteristics of sustainable events and therefore builds on some of the work outlined in Gallagher’s 2010 paper on sustainability appraisal. The application however is focussed on event management and in particular festivals. The methodology employed is that’s of carbon foot-printing and the paper assesses the footprint of a case study festival, the Isle of Wight Festival drawing on data collected for each of the key indicators identified.
