The Art of Writing Fiction
This book makes an original contribution to the pedagogy and practice of creative writing. It offers a critical appraisal of other works in that genre, draws extensively on Cowen’s research knowledge as a publishing writer, the knowledge and practice of a wide range of other contemporary writers as well as Cowan’s extensive experience as a teacher of fiction writing and as Director of the UEA Creative Writing programme, and on his extensive professional knowledge of the disciplinary literature. It culminates in a discussion of the practice of the contingent, exploratory processes of the writing workshop where craft-based critical concepts are brought to bear upon student works-in-progress in order to produce insights into the practicalities of literary production.
