Additional information

This paper presents the first study of the first extensive use of fibre reinforced concrete as stepped revetment armour or marine defence. It describes an unexpected accelerated degradation process in the marine environment. Use of this concrete is being considered by a number of other seaside Town Councils and this study will inform their performance expectations. To highlight the issues associated with this form of concrete in this context to a wider audience, an amendment has been proposed to Concrete Society guidance on the use of Macro-synthetic reinforced concrete (TR 65).
