Additional information

The usefulness of this paper stems from the fact that it describes in details the assumptions used in modelling ramp metering controls which are widely used these days on busy motorways to alleviate congestion and ensure smooth traffic operations. These assumptions were presented in detailed flowcharts to help practitioners replicate the microsimulation model to decide on the best options for triggering traffic signals controls at motorway ramp merge sections.
