Additional information

Paper describes development of resonant-decay methodology enabling vibration testing of full-scale structures to characterise and identify non-linearities in rigorous manner without changing typical test set-up. Approach potentially transforms modal testing of large structures, enabling non-linear terms and couplings to be simply added to conventional matrices determined in vibration test. Work resulted from EPSRC project (GR/S06769/01, £205k, 2003-6) and led to Cooper's keynote at RTO-AVT 2008. Methodology is part of Clean Sky projects "ESICAPIA" (No. 325954, €1.9M, 2013-5) and "ETRIOLLA" (No. 323460, €3.2M, 2013-4), which involve non-linear testing of large wind-tunnel models.
