Additional information

Structural non-linearities are becoming increasingly important for prediction and design of aircraft response. Paper presents first experimental application of non-linear resonant decay method for analysis of aircraft-type structure. Paper demonstrates that approach could be applied to ground vibration testing of full-scale aircraft leading to major increase in capability. Work led to keynote at NATO RTO-AVT meeting (2008) and was key component of 2008-9 contract for BAE Systems on modelling aeroelastic behaviour with structural non-linearities [contact: Project Lead]. Methodology is central theme of EPSRC Programme Grant on "Engineering Non-linearity" (EP/K003836/1, £4.2M, 2012-7).
