Design, implementation and evaluation of a novel public display for pedestrian navigation: the rotating compass
<20> Presents an innovative concept for navigation, first to combine route choices displayed in the environment synchronised with tactile notifications on personal devices worn by the user. This is significant as it maintains user attention on the environment they navigate while enabling personalised guidance in an unobtrusive manner. Rigorously studied and compared with other techniques in an outdoor wayfinding experiment, including consideration of task switches and distractions. Published in CHI, the leading conference in the field, as one of 277 papers accepted from 1130 submissions. Frequently cited, and 1188 downloads from the ACM DL.
