In vitro bone growth responds to local mechanical strain in three-dimensional polymer scaffolds
This paper deomstrates for the first time a relationship between complex load profiles across a porous polymer scaffold and the production of new bone in a tissue engineered construct. The work demonstrated the optimal load profile for complex tissue engineering using porous growth scaffolds. The work was funded by EPSRC(EP/F/C511727/1) and two EU projects, Alea Jacta Est (MEST-CT-2004-008104) and EXPERTSSUES (NMP3-CT-2004-500283). The work was presented as invited speaker at Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Science World Congress (Vienna, 2012) and World Congress of Regenerative Medicine (Boston, 2014).
