François Blondel: Architecture, Erudition, and the Scientific Revolution
This is a major scholarly monograph (120,000 words, 321 pages) and the culmination of a twelve-year project. It focuses on a key figure in European architectural and urban history and uses a novel interdisciplinary approach, with equal focus on early modern science and Baroque court culture. It is the first book in English on the subject, with up-to-date scholarship, previously unknown documentary sources, and newly attributed drawings (principally from the Archives Nationales, Paris and the Stockholm Nationalmuseum). The book was peer-reviewed and selected for a prestigious series, The Classical Tradition in Architecture, edited by Caroline Van Eck of Leiden University.
