The New Hollstein Dutch and Flemish Etchings, Engravings and Woodcuts, 1450-1650. Frans Floris de Vriendt
These two volumes are based on extensive research in over thirty European and American collections and in Belgian archives carried out over the course of three years. The entries and introduction, approximately 55,000 words including notes, were written in a period of two years and present the first in-depth study of the subject in English. The volumes catalogue, analyze, and illustrate all of the known etchings, engravings and woodcuts produced by and made after the designs of Frans Floris de Vriendt. The study provides an in-depth analysis of Floris’s engagement with printmaking as an artform and his relationship to the publisher Hieronymus Cock.
