This paper reports outcome of a large-scale EPSRC project jointly funded through Cranfield Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (IMRC-24) and Loughborough Innovative Manufacturing and Civil Research Centre (IMCRC-54) involving 3 full-time researchers, 4 investigators and 4 industrial collaborators. Gao was one of the two principal investigators. The success of the project directly led to major follow-up projects at both Universities: ‘Unification of Design, Manufacturing Capability and Service Knowledge in Collaborative Product Development’ (Cranfield IMRC-51), ‘Interoperable Manufacturing Knowledge Systems’ (Loughborough IMCRC-53 ) and Loughborough’s participation of the KIM grand challenge project (EP/C534220/1) with key industrial collaborators of this project.
