The Ashgate Research Companion to Popular Musicology

Scott shaped the overall design of this research companion, setting the research agenda for popular musicology, establishing the significant research areas, and working closely with contributors (including translating from French and German). Drawing on his extensive experience of popular music research, Scott’s introduction represents the first attempt to distinguish the field of popular musicology from sociological popular music studies. Choice recognized this when selecting it as an Outstanding Academic Title (July 2010): “With this substantial collection, Scott solves a Herculean problem long evident in popular-music scholarship: where does one go for a thorough rethinking of this body of work?”
