This article documents and evaluates the series of experimental drawings and paintings produced during the Leverhulme-funded collaboration 'A Cultural Geography of the Practice of Contemporary Landscape Painting/Drawing'. Visual art practice becomes a dialogue between art and cultural geography. The principal research findings are critical reflections upon the character and formatting of spaces and objects in painterly perception: issues of proximity and distance related to the representation of space in particular, and the notion of 'semblance' in general.

The drawings and paintings have been exhibited in London, Barcelona, Exeter and Aberystwyth.
