Additional information
<22> The innovative approach to automated grading of English free text
described is the subject of a patent application by Cambridge English
Learning and Assessment (CELA), a commercial division of the
University of Cambridge (US 12/899,260, October 2010, Automated
Assessment of Examination Scripts). As a direct consequence, CELA
provided 4 doctoral studentships and from October 2013 will fund the
Alta Institute hosted by the lab for 5 years to a total of 2.5M GBP.
The key innovations are to treat grading as rank preference supervised
machine learning in which discriminative features are found
automatically.
