Additional information
Bioassays are limited by their encoding capacity and their relatively slow read-outs. This makes the whole difference between a one-off 5-year worldwide Human Genome Project and its translation to fully DNA-sequencing individual patients for personalised medicine. As a major step to bridge this gap, a novel diffraction encoding system for microparticle-based bioassays is demonstrated with an unprecedented encoding capacity (1018 different codes for 50 mm particles, vs. 106-109 for existing techniques), enabling high-throughput assays within hours.
