Work on this edition was evenly divided between the two editors. Stephen Bending established the texts of vol. 3 and half of vol. 2 along with those for appendix E and F. He produced the first drafts for sections of the introduction on class, luxury, masculinity and imperialism (and was thus responsible for half of its 10,000 words); each editor then revised the other’s drafts; textual notes, bibliography and chronology were also equally divided between editors.
