Magnetic field effects in artificial dielectrics with arrays of magnetic wires at microwaves
The wire medium, having negative permittivity in lower frequency bands, is an important component of so-called double-negative metamaterials. This is the first paper to demonstrate theoretically and experimentally a strong tuning effect of a weak magnetic field on the scattering spectra of periodic lattices of magnetic wires. In arrays of Co-based amorphous wires, the application of a magnetic field of 1–2 kA/m is capable of a few-fold permittivity change in the frequency range of 1–2 GHz, which suggests applications for smart composites. These novel findings resulted in invited talks (Panina, AES 2012, DISNMA 2013).
