Additional information

Goppa codes are a family of codes that have been known for over thirty years and we were as surprised as everyone else to discover some new properties that allowed new codes to be constructed that produce better performance than any previously published codes having the same length and code rate. These codes, unlike most other codes, have the practical advantage that their length is an integral number of bytes which opens up the possibility of new commercial applications of error correction coding, following our success of using codes for train detection with Bombardier.
