Uniaxial and buckling mechanical response of auxetic cellular tubes
This paper makes an original contribution to the understanding of the buckling response of auxetic tubular structures; it demonstrates that these structures can provide improved performance in several biomedical applications. The results of this research have stimulated collaboration with Yale (Prof J Humphrey, jay.humphrey@yale.edu & Dr G Tellides, george.tellides@yale.edu) aimed at the development of a new stent for improved treatment of aortic stiffening and associated cardiac diastolic dysfunction. This research has been selected as one of the Yale-UCL Flagship Projects in Vascular Engineering and is funded by the two institutions.
