<10>This paper is an extended journal version of the paper of the same name presented at the Integrating Formal Methods 2009 conference. It provides, for the first time, a formal foundation of interface refinement in CSP||B. This is significant as it allows different levels of abstraction in development, and enables model checkers for CSP||B, such as ProB, to reduce the state space of the models under analysis, thereby extending their reach. This research now underpins a collaborative project with Invensys Rail which seeks improvements in the modelling of railway interlocking systems.
