The mechanical loss of tin (II) oxide thin-film coatings for charge mitigation in future gravitational wave detectors
First demonstration of the use of conductive oxide thin film technology for charge mitigation in future gravitational wave detectors. Significant international interest include invited talks at the Edoardo Amaldi Conference (2007, Sydney) and LSC-LVC workshops in the US and Europe, 2007-2009). Reid was invited to visit Micro-g Lacoste, Colorado (2010, funded by RSE) to help develop similar coatings for use in borehole gravimeters. This work gave the foundation for a significant fraction of funding from STFC (£157k, Reid Co-I, Glasgow, 2010) and again in 2013, with 30% of the £276k grant on similar coating developments at UWS (Reid PI, 2013).
