Democracy Distorted is a 268-page book written over a 4-year period. Seven chapters are wholly new, one chapter revises an earlier work, and another chapter is mainly new with a section drawing on earlier work (an output equivalent to 4 articles). The inter-disciplinary study covers an extensive range of material, starting with theories of democracy and free speech to build a conceptual framework. It examines a wide range of political practices in light of that framework, looking at legal controls and possible reforms. The book advances a complex thesis that brings together disparate areas of law, politics and democratic theory.
