A Habitable Fluvio-Lacustrine Environment at Yellowknife Bay, Gale Crater, Mars.
This paper reports the first discovery of an ancient habitable river and lake environment on Mars, ie., one that is suited to support a possible Martian biosphere. The paper highlights the biological viability of sedimentary rocks on Mars. The report is one of the major results of NASA's Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover mission on which Gupta is a Science Team member. Gupta analysed and interpreted the palaeoenvironmental contexts, participated in rover operations, and provided strategic leadership in his role as a mission Long Term Science Planner. Led to invited plenary at International Association of Sedimentologists Conference (Manchester, UK 09/2013).
