Regulating Sexuality: Women in Twentieth Century Northern Ireland
This was researched over eight years and used a mixture of research techniques taking time to collect and analyse. New and underused archival material at, e.g., the Salvation Army Home, Church of Ireland House, Presbyterian Historical Society was often of a sensitive nature, difficult to locate and obtain permission to use. The design, inputting and analysis of extensive databases of, e.g., entrants to the Salvation Army Home in Belfast 1905-1946 was crucial but time consuming. Finally, oral history interviews involved problems of coverage and ethics in uncovering the experiences of women in the Second World War, e.g., in family planning.
