Multidimensional CFD simulation of syngas combustion in a micro-pilot-ignited dual-fuel engine using a constructed chemical kinetics mechanism
Modelling of syngas combustion in engine is challenging due to gas specific variable content and in-cylinder transient conditions. This research reveals that under supercharged engine conditions, hydrogen peroxide-based reactions are crucial in launching a series of important secondary chain reactions. Results of this research were acknowledged by world-renowned CFD software developer CD-Adapco and the paper was included in the company’s online library as key example for dual-fuel engine simulation (http://www.cd-adapco.com/journal/multidimensional-cfd-simulation-syngas-combustion-micro-pilot-ignited-dual-fuel-engine-using). This research led to a Japanese Government grant (30M Yen) on dual-fuel engine entitled “Forefront research and education for investigation of photosynthesis mechanism and high efficiency utilization of solar energy”.
