Additional information

Paper proposes new method for measuring stress deep within graphite, describing methodology and validation studies performed to demonstrate its applicability. As result of work, EDF Energy sponsored additional research [contact: Graphite Engineer, Graphite Core Project Team, Nuclear Generation]. New tool capable of working within Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) system is being developed by Veqter Ltd. [REF3b: Veqter; contact: Managing Director] and EDF-Energy. Consequences of internal stress on quasi-brittle fracture of graphite are being explored in new EPSRC project with Oxford University (EP/J019801/1, £533k, 2012-5).
