Additional information

The present work investigated the suitability of micro Particle Image Velocimetry (μ-PIV) for estimating the thickness of liquid film and the interface shape. Experiments were conducted in two open inclined, rectangular microchannels with widths 1200 and 600μm. This was a multi-disciplinary project involving Brunel University and the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki. The design and fabrication of the microfluidic device took place at Brunel. We used ultrahigh precision manufacturing techniques to form a template of the microchannels, which required unconventionally high aspect ratios, and then created the device using soft lithography. The technique is now used widely in several other projects.
